This programme provides the knowledge, attitudes, and practice skills integration training for the counsellor who has the vision to embark no on psychological helping profession.

Journal Reading & Project Writing I & II

This course provides the specific lectures, seminar and discussion for exploring the trainee’s interests and professional orientation. Literatures reading and learning for elective topic writing, and idea forming for research are the assignments.

Advanced Statistic & Research Method

This course will review educational and psychological statistics fundamentals, advanced learning for statistical methods and programming software. For the methodology learning, students will be familiar with social science research methods; quantitative research design, data collection and analysis, and the preparation for proposal writing are also facilitated.

Qualitative Research

This course will introduce the research paradigms and methodology, and important qualitative research orientations are. The assignments include preparing proposal writing, involves learning and practice for qualitative research design, data collection and analysis.

Theories of Counseling & Psychotherapy

This course will introduce the counsel

ing and Psychotherapy theories which include the  various approaches, such as: psychoanalysis/ psychodynamics/ Adlerian/ Jungian/ Existence/Person Center/Gestalt/Behavioral therapy/ Cognitive behavior/ Reality therapy/ Feminism/ Solution focus/ Narrative therapy/ Family therapy and other orientations. Theory integration and practical application learning will be emphasized.

Practice of Counseling Process & Techniques

This course emphasizes on the learning of the process of counseling practice, which include: Intake, case conceptualization, and interview skills. The various types of micro counseling techniques, practice integration and application will be addressed step by step for trainee’s learning and practice.

Ethics in Counseling & Psychotherapy

This course facilitates the trainee to be familiar with the ethical values and standards of the counselling profession, including the ethic framework of APA, ACA, and BACP, and further stress on practical development in Singapore and Taiwan. Important ethical core issues in counselling and psychotherapy, ethical modification, social justice restoration, and ethics issues of specific fields or populations will be discussed.

Group Counseling & Therapy

This course will review the group work in psychological service in diverse settings, group project design and effectiveness evaluation. Practice learning will focus on comprehensive group planning, recruitment screening, group forming, and advanced process facilitating.

Counseling Practicum

Aims to integrate the theoretical and practice learning; This practicum course provides the opportunity for self-reflection through the preliminary counselling experience. After submitting the application and the review by the institution, trainees are required to join the group supervision of this course. 150 hours of professional experience, with 100 contact hours for client direct service and 10-15 hours individual supervision each following ten sessions are required. Preparation for the practical internship, framework application, and confidence enhancing through experience etc., will be facilitated and empowered for professional development.

Seminar on Human Development & Growth

Core Foundation of Developmental Psychology will be reviewed in this course. Specific issues depend on different development periods across infant to aging, personality and psychosocial development, and adult development and learning will be studied. 

Seminar on Personality Psychology

Core Foundation of Personality Psychology will be reviewed in this course. Specific issues of personality psychology research and appraisal, different perspectives of personality theories, and the integration and application will be studied.

Helping Relationship and Community Mental Health

This course aims to study the basic elements and principles of helping relationships, principles of professional helping relationships, and roles of professional helpers. The various helping theories, models, and processes in diverse community mental health settings will be studied. The helping strategies and issues related, knowledge and information essential to effective professional helping, helping through internet and multimedia materials, and inter-disciplinary team collaboration will also be studied.

Psychological Diagnosis and Intervention

Introduction for psychological diagnosis and psychiatric impression formation is the foundation of this course. Various types of diagnosis and its related psychopathology, evidence-based findings, and intervention models for each category are the main content for learning. Specific issues such as addictive behaviours and the treatment for different types will be addressed for further discussion.

Career Counseling & Development

This course provides the study of career counselling and

guidance services that focus on occupational, educational, and personal/social issues for general and special populations. An examination of theoretical bases for career counselling, assessment tools applying, guidance, the study of organization and delivery of information through individual and group activities are included. Related ethical concerns are covered.

Psychological Testing & Assessment

This course provides the learning for psychometric theory and looks at the various types of education and psychological tests. The testing and assessment practice, formation of intervention plans, report writing, and team communication are practised for enhancing trainee's competency of case conceptualization and intervention decision making.

Family & Couple Counseling

This course will start at reviewing the family psychology and intimacy development theory as the foundation. Learning the different approaches, theory and practice of family counselling, and preparation for practice through family intake and diagram analysis are the main tasks.

Seminar on Multicultural Counseling

This course provides multicultural perspectives for counselling and psychotherapy practice. Cultural reflection from the Chinese context, application and adjusting of Western counselling theories will be the start point for discussion. Multicultural counselling issues in postmodern society with diverse groups and populations (age/disability/religious /ethnic group/class/ sexual orientation/gender, etc.)  will be addressed.

Child Counseling & Play Therapy

This course provides the training for the child counselling practice. The children's psychological diagnosis and intervention and systematic viewpoint for counselling children with special needs will be the first part of learning. Child play therapy practice, the approach of child-centred, will be addressing.  The counselling process, effectiveness evaluation, play observation, and parent consultation are also included.
